Birding Southern Queensland | Birding around Brisbane and beyond…. Birding around Brisbane and beyond…. Taking advantage of a slow-work period, Brian and Del Coates and I decided to spend a long-weekend birding in the Stanthorpe area. We headed off from Brisbane early Friday-morning and on arrival at the Cunningham’s Gap BBQ area had already ‘ticked-off’ 3 Glossy Black Cockatoos but were unable to stop and get photos due to the traffic-hazard of ‘road-works’ as we ascended. Cheeky Satin Bowerbirds decided to help us eat breakfast and Bell Miners called all around us, I was fairly sure that I saw Musk Lorikeets which were surprisingly the only ones seen on the trip. As it was fairly windy (…and chilly!) we didn’t waste too much time there and headed south to Warwick and Stanthorpe. Near Warwick we had great views of an adult Spotted Harrier with a very full-crop crossing the highway.
