Description: Detailed information about the nine species recorded in the state, gardening, winter sightings, and spring migration.
Georgia Hummer Study Group Website Where are the Ruby-throats? I had some earlier this year, but now they are gone! This is a common question at this time of year. Everyone gets excited when they see their first arrivals and then a week or two later....nothing. I remember so many from last year, but now I don’t see any or maybe one once in awhile. The answer to this question is they are nesting. If you don’t have a one nesting near you, you may not see any this time of year. However there is good news coming the first week of July. The males will begin to fatten up for their migration to the winter ground as well as the young birds will be looking for feeders, so you should see your numbers start to increase in July and then peak in mid to late August. Keep your feeders clean and you should see them soon.
