Serving Lanett and Valley, Alabama and West Point, Georgia Chambers employment growth strong in 2013 Chambers employment growth strong in 2013 On Monday, the Valley City Council (at right) listened to a review of the Chambers County Development Authority's activities in 2013. Kimberly Fuller, on the left, gave an end-of-the-year wrap up highlighting what took place locally in the way of industrial, retail and commercial development. The falling of the county's unemployment rate from 9.2 percent in January to 6.1 percent in December was the best news. 2013 brought in $220.8 million in capital investments and 313 new jobs. The reopening of Knauf created 144 new jobs, and there's a strong possibility Norbord will be reopening its plant in Huguley. The Canada-based company is planning to invest $45 million in upgrading that wood products mill. A decision to reopen it will depend on market conditions and consumer demand. (Photo by Wayne Clark)
