Sun pillar 2005/2/25 10 minutes later 2005/2/25 A nice sun pillar at sunset. It appeared at around 5:45pm. At first it's a thin, long, white pillar above the sun, while the sun itself was hidden by some clouds. After a few minutes it disappeared, only to re-appear when the red sun was almost set. The visual effect was striking -- the now red sun pillar shining against a dark cloud backdrop. Temperature around 30F. Canon EOS 300D camera with lens set at 55mm and 170mm respectively. From Green Tree, Pittsburgh.
