Alberta Lymphedema Association (ALA) &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp &nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Calgary Lymphedema Clinic Opening On Monday January 20th the Calgary Lymphedema Service will open at Sheldon Chumir Health Centre in downtown Calgary to treat patients living in Southern Alberta who have primary and non-cancer related lymphedema. The service will be open 4 days a week to serve patients 16 years and older. The service is able to treat approximately 20 clients a week. Patients under the age of 16 will continue to be provided care for lymphedema at the Alberta Childrens Hospital. Southern Alberta patients who have lymphedema as a result of cancer or its treatment will continue receiving care through the Tom Baker Cancer Centres Rehab and Lymphedema Program. Treatment to reduce swelling and decrease the risk of infection includes manual lymph drainage, compression therapy, patient education, exercises and skin care in combination with compression garments. AHS has been working with the Alberta Lymphedema Association on the development of Calgary Zone services for these patients. In Edmonton, adult primary lymphedema patients are served by the Community Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Service (CRIS) program. Well be regularly reviewing the program to ensure that patients treatment needs are being met.
