Description: | [...] in the rain at Marymoor Park Tuesday morning, people were shedding their shoes and socks for a walk on rocks, all in the name of health and wellness. "Reflexology is much more than a foot rub," declared Wayne Nelson, owner of Redmond Reflexology, a private company that offers reflexology services. Elizabeth Marazita, a former investment banker who lived in Asia, said the Marymoor path is the first public reflexology path in the United States. With her husband, Michael Spano, she studied paths in Malaysia, Japan, India and Singapore and had a book full of photos to share -- photos of L-shaped paths in retirement centers, paths connected with bridges in Japan. Marazita, who now teaches reflexology at the University of Washington and Bastyr University, and Spano worked on the design team with architect Doug Rice of the King County Water and Land Resources Division, incorporating ideas from all over the world into the paths at Marymoor and White Center. Rutter, a charter member of the Washington Reflexology Association, organized in 1997, credits William Fitzgerald, an osteopath, with putting modern reflexology on the map in this country around 1917. |
