Description: Located in Williams Lake. A residential, culturally-based treatment program for First Nations and Inuit family and youth suffering from drug, alcohol or solvent abuse. Detailed information on the program and registration requirements are available here.
Nenqayni Wellness Centre Society is governed by the 15 bands. The Chiefs of the 15 bands are the members of the society and elect a Board of Directors which consists of 9 directors, with 3 from each of the 3 Nations: Secwepemc (Shuswap), Tsilhqot'in (Chilcotin), and Dakelh (Carrier). See "Governance Board" page. Nenqayni Wellness Centre was registered as a non-profit society in 1983. The Centre began serving individual adult clients with drug and alcohol addictions. The location of the treatment services has moved from the Cultural Education Centre at Fish Lake to the former St. Joseph's Mission Residential School at Sugar Cane, then the Slumber Lodge in town and finally in 1991 opened the new buildings at the current location.
