The Smail-3 Mail Transfer Agent One of the longest-lived freeware projects that I have worked on has been the maintenance of Smail-3. Smail-3 is an implementation of an Electronic Mail Transport Agent (MTA), i.e. a program used for sending and receiving electronic mail, for Unix-like (POSIX compatible) systems.
