Welcome To The ProVB.org Bulletin Health (like obesity) and Healthcare (like health insurance) dominates the news these days. Health care costs continue to skyrocket well ahead to the inflation rate. Washington politicians battle over whether or not the government should be involved in health care. Conservatives hate so-called Obamacare because they perceive it as a government takeover of healthcare and a step towards socialism. Liberals hate it because they perceive Obamacare as a gift of 30 million new customers to private for-profit insurance companies. They cite the fact that after the original Affordable Healthcare Act passed, shares of health insurance companies rallied to all time highs. Many on both sides argue that Obamacare forces people into what amounts to inadequate catastrophic health insurance policies with deductibles so high as to render them essentially useless for health maintenance or preventative health care. And, since the poor with no-assets have little or no assets to protect, what is the purpose of catastrophic polices anyway? So, the toxic ideological battles in Washington continue, even to the extent that reasonable attempts to simply encourage healthier eating are rallied against as unconstitutional intrusions in the private lives of citizens. So, by any measure the healthcare debate is unhealthy to say the least.
