Description: An Article in Dr. Dobb's Journal by Mark Nelson that appeared in January, 1996.
This page contains my original text and figures for the article that appeared in the January 1996 DDJ. Please download the new if you want to work with Visual C++ 6.0. When I wrote the chapter on Huffman coding for my Data Compression book, my sample programs emphasized clarity at the expense of efficiency. I felt it was much more important for my code to be easy to understand than it was to be fast or tight.
