Fraud is everywhere. Look at what happened last month with 40 million cards at Target, and thieves are really focusing on the debit cards. In an attempt to stop this fraud, starting in 2014, all financial institutions will be issuing new debit cards with an EMV chip embedded in the card. Unfortunately, due to the inability of Visa, MasterCard and a few large banks to quickly update their systems, this new technology may not be utilized until January 2015. In the meantime, Westminster FCU is not only issuing the new cards, but we are changing your 16 digit debit account number.
