Thurber Engineering : Thurber Engineering Ltd. This beautiful facility was built as an addition to the majestic Empress Hotel (background). A recent expansion has added the former Crystal Garden structure across the street (foreground). All structures are built on deep fill dredged from the harbour, which presented geotechnical challenges ranging from underpinning of the Empress to seismic liquefaction assessment of the fill (Photo: Bob Matheson).
