Baseball Field Design and Maintenance A baseball diamond, seen from the stands is the field upon which the game of baseball is played. The starting point for much of the action on the field is home plate, which is a five-sided white rubber slab 17 inches by 8 1/2 by 12 by 12 by 8 1/2 inches.
