Kevin Burnham - Professional Sailor, Motivational Speaker, Olympic Gold Medalist After 30 years of campaigning to win an Gold Medal, my dream finally came true in Athens 2004. The vision of winning an Olympic Medal came in 1975 when I was introduced to the 470 through my good friend Steve Benjamin. Having sailed every Olympic Trials since 1984, I never gave up on my dream of winning a Gold Medal. My determination brought me to the Olympic Games in 1992 in Barcelona - 17 years after I first started campaigning. There, Morgan Reeser and I won the Silver Medal. This only fueled my hopes of winning the Olympic Gold. Twelve years later, I finally accomplished my goal, at the age of 47, sailing in the 470 with Paul Foerster. After thirty years of positive attitude and a very strong work ethic, I am the oldest Olympic Gold Medalist in the 2004 Olympic Games.
