Description: Informational page on this rare sheep breed.
The Ryeland is one of the oldest British breeds of sheep and, until recently, was classified as a minority breed. There are now sufficient numbers of Ryelands in the U.K. for it no longer to be a rare or minority breed here but it is a rare breed in other countries. Ryeland sheep are kept in England, Scotland, Wales, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. The great majority of Ryeland sheep are white and the coloured Ryelands are still relatively rare.
