Join us for a free Webinar event, as Ken Baake presents "The Rhetoric of Science and How Metaphor Constitutes Knowledge in Science" on Thursday, February 23rd, 2:00-3:00pm CST. The rhetoric of science has been a flourishing academic sub-discipline since Thomas Kuhn's book, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, was published in the 1960s, revealing the means by which knowledge in science comes to be enshrined textually. This role of language in science is the topic of Ken Baake's STC Webinar. He will first review the rhetoric of science as a field of study, and then turn to his own area of research-the means by which metaphor as a rhetorical device helps to constitute knowledge in science. Baake will review findings from his 2003 book on metaphor and science and present examples of the role of metaphor in the sciences, offering insights for technical communicators who are involved in science writing.
