| Description: | Laura Clamp’s imagery is often drawn from popular culture, such as magazines and films, as well as her own photography and drawings. She utilises a representational style to cross the boundaries between photography and painting. In addition, the language of painting facilitates the manipulation and distortion of the original image to give it a different reading. Each image, by the very nature of the act of painting, enters a fantasy world where everything can be controlled and contrived. Much in the same way as paitings have distorted our view of our world for centuries, images found in beauty magazines and their manipulated nature also distort our notion of what is real and what is created, she often playfully portrays the sexualised nature of the beauty and advertising industry this is why there are so many sexual innuendos in her work. |
