I recently had to do this on one of our main tables to tweak one of the algorithms we have for sorting content. Essentially I had to add a column with a new index on it. Sound familiar? What I’m about to tell you isn’t rocket science, you should be able to apply this quite easily to many projects. We’re using MySQL here, but I imagine the concept should apply just the same to other RDBMSs.
