Description: Annual event held in Brussels. Features venues showing some twenty new works and a total of thirty-two projects that have come from all four corners of the world and from both sides of Belgium's linguistic divide.
The 18th Kunstenfestivaldesarts opened in complete darkness. This was how began, a new work by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s created alongside choreographer Boris Charmatz and violinist Amandine Beyer. A shifting, out-of-frame darkness was also used in the festival’s visual communications. And while language and public debate were the leitmotifs this year, a surprise probably came in the attachment shown by some of the forms for darkness, both in terms of subject matter and bodies.
