Description: Textile paintings composed of antique textiles appliqued by hand onto silk organza as though using paint. Motifs are a commentary on modern life.
I call my work Organza Appliqué. Organza refers to the ground fabric and appliqué is the process by which fabrics are applied to the Organza. My work is not quilting. Organza is a fine light and somewhat transparent 100% silk textile. I appliqué to it old, vintage and antique fabrics mostly of Japanese origin. Appliqué means apply by stitching with needle and thread by hand or machine. Through this method I create images often three dimensional, fanciful, geometric, botanical, and thoughtful.
