Description: Textile artist from India living in London whose work is a fusion of Indian and Western techniques, hand and machine embroidery, appliqué and beading.
produce richly textured, vibrant wall hangings by combining fabric manipulation with embroidery and quilting. I aim to create abstract pieces, often inspired by spiritual or religious themes and nature. My home city of Varanasi, in northern India, is a famous place of pilgrimage for Hindus, but it is also known for its exquisite silk brocades. The beauty of this ancient place and its rich iconography still inform much of my work today. From my earliest childhood I was exposed to the magic of textiles and for me it seemed a natural development to choose that medium as a means of artistic expression.
